Nothing is more frustrating and costly than a botched wax job…bubbles and streaks…dull, hazy shine…wax on the baseboards…uneven coats. Tomorrow the floors will need to be re-stripped. Here’s how it works. The key to KaiMotion is flow control and even spreading. The worker can control exactly how much solution goes onto the floor with the spigot throttle and by how fast he walks. The wider the opening of the throttle, the more flow. The faster he walks, the less solution on the floor.
The gauge fingers are the cruise control for the worker. By setting the fingers he will know how much to open the throttle and how fast to walk.
Once the wax is applied to the floor it is evenly spread with a specially designed green micro-fiber wax pad. The blue pad is for cleaning.
So lets get started, fill the solution tank with finish. The liquid level is visible and the graduation marks let the worker know how much is in the tank. The solution tank holds up to 10 gallons for really big jobs.
To fasten the micro-fiber pad put it on the floor and attach the frame, connecting the leading edge first. Then clip the double bend ergo handle to the frame. Secure the tray with the wrap and snap.
Pour some finish into the applicator tray and moisten the wax pad.
The gauge fingers should be set at about two inches wide for laying most floor finish.
Finishing Floors – Large Rooms
For classrooms settings, it is important to size up the area that is to be waxed. Usually breaking it into halves or thirds…depending on the room size. Start in the corner.
Open the throttle valve to release the finish onto the floor, keeping it between the gauge fingers applying a precise bead. If the bead is too wide or narrow adjust the throttle valve accordingly, or change your pace of walking. The bead should be 24 inches away from the wall, allowing room for the pad to trim the edge.
Apply the finish in a “U” shaped pattern always steering with the right hand and walking inside the “U” pattern. After turning off the spigot kick the bucket to shake loose any drops of finish from the spigot that might later drip on the floor.
Place the applicator pad in the bead of finish to moisten. Start in the corner and trim along the baseboard. Notice that no finish is sloshed onto the baseboards. When the pad starts to dry out reload it by dipping into the bead…this will create an even coat along the baseboard. Unlike a mop the flat pad easily maneuvers into corners.
After trimming, the worker stands inside the “U” and begins applying the finish in a swivel “S” pattern. The double bend ergo handle automatically keeps the raised leading edge forward. Depending on the worker height, the floor finish is usually spread in an eight to 10 foot wide pattern.
Applying the floor finish in an “S” pattern allows the micro-fiber pad to be reloaded twice with each pass. The raised leading edge of the micro-fiber pad quickly absorbs the bead and evenly spreads it onto the floor.
No more dipping the string mop into the bucket…wringing it out…creating bubbles. Notice…there are no bubbles or streaks on this floor…the micro-fibers are working their magic.
The worker trims his way out to the doorway, and checks his humidistat supplied with each KaiMotion, to determine the proper dry time.
High humidity and hot temperatures, like in the summer, require extra drying time for floor finish. Without proper drying times the finish will not cure properly leaving floors dull, hazy, and streaked. Also, very low humidity causes super fast drying, which can be a problem. In general higher humidity should have thinner coats, and lower humidity – heavier coats. Check with the finish manufacturer for dry time recommendations.
The KaiMotion is an organized system…everything has a place. It can be left as is until it is time to put down the next coat of finish.
Finishing Floors – Hallways
Basically the same procedure used in the classroom is also used in hallways…a single “U” shaped pattern is usually sufficient to cover a hallway. We recommend the “U” shape be no longer than 50 feet per section.
Because a dirty mop never contaminates the solution tank, the unused finish can easily be poured back into its original container. No longer pouring money down the drain at the end of the wax job.
Deluxe Mopping
KaiMotion quickly converts from an awesome waxing system to a deluxe mopping system, combining dust mopping and wet mopping. This combination eliminates dust mopping and makes KaiMotion three times faster. Another bonus is the worker will never change dirty mop water again.
For deluxe mopping the worker fills the solution tank with neutral cleaner and moistens his blue micro-fiber cleaning pads.
The cleaning pads are stowed in the wringer, which will hold up to 20 blue pads.
A full tank and 20 cleaning pads will clean all the hallways in a typical school building, saving many trips to the janitor’s closet.
The ergo handle is also adjustable to match the height of the worker.
For daily cleaning the worker adjusts his gauge fingers to one inch and lays a single straight bead of cleaning solution.
Because the ergonomic handle allows for smooth flowing movements there is no strain on the worker…the foam pad grip is soft to the touch and the pivoting top of the handle eliminates blisters and calloused hands.
The pad frame applies even pressure onto the floor helping the micro-fibers pick up ground in soil better than any wet mop. The ultra fine micro-fiber absorbs and traps large amounts of soil before changing.
Unlike an auto-scrubber, KaiMotion is extremely simple. No complicated gizmos to break, no streaking squeegees, no batteries to go dead. KaiMotion is simple, effective and fast.
Other mopping uses for KaiMotion include: cleaning baseboards…cleaning around tight corners…and around columns…cleaning under classroom desks…and spot cleaning as well.
His hips are leading his movements…much like in a golf or baseball swing. This motion utilizes the strong leg muscles…not the upper body, reducing fatigue and back strain.
Notice how dirt accumulates in the cleaning pad. The greatest concentration is at the leading edge, gradually diminishing as it approaches the trailing edge. As soils begin to accumulate at the trailing edge it is time to change the pad.
To change the micro-fiber pad, simply peel it off of the frame and place it in the applicator tray. Apply a clean pad and you are ready to continue.
The micro-fiber pads are machine washable…500 to 1000 washes. They come out clean and ready for another use.
Finishing Gym Floors
KaiMotion can also be used to apply gym floor finish, both oil and water based. Just like floor finish, place a precise bead and spread it evenly, using a T-Bar. Easy to roll, and 10 gallon capacity make KaiMotion twice as fast and no backache.
Multi-Purpose Uses
We refer to it as a chemical dispenser on wheels. In addition to applying floor finish and mopping KaiMotion is great for applying degreaser to kitchens and stripping out floors. Using the “U” application pattern allows the worker to put a high volume of chemical on the floor, while safely staying on dry surfaces. This reduces the chance that he will slip and fall and injure himself. A KaiVac or wet vacuum makes clean up a breeze.
