Dorm Restrooms: How to Clean Mirrors, Sinks, and Floors

The fall semester is nearly here! Before students begin to flock to their dorms, you should establish a plan for cleaning their high-traffic restroom facilities. Residents use the stalls, showers, and sinks located in these restrooms throughout all hours of the day and night, and, as such, these facilities pose a major cleaning challenge. Here are some tips on how to clean a women's dorm restroom quickly and efficiently, preventing the potential for bacteria buildup.

Mirrors

The mirrors in these restrooms can be stained by a wide variety of substances throughout the day. Splattered toothpaste, sprayed hair products, water spots, and soap residue can leave a film of soil on these surfaces. In an effort to save time and energy, your custodial crew should use a squeegee system, as opposed to rags or paper towels, to clean the mirrors located in your facilities. This advanced cleaning technology allows your team to clean and dry these surfaces in a matter of seconds, leaving a streak-free finish behind.

Sinks

As many students brush their hair over restroom sinks, these drains can get clogged easily. Therefore, your team should start their sink cleaning process by removing any hair that has built up in these areas.

Makeup stains pose another unique challenge when cleaning restroom sinks in a women's dorm. As many residents do their makeup in front of the restroom mirrors, products like foundation and lipstick are constantly being dropped on the sinks. These oily substances can leave behind stubborn stains. When trying to remove these stains, your team should start by spraying a grease-fighting cleaning solution onto the surface. This solution will loosen the dried makeup. Then, your cleaning crew should use a microfiber towel to wipe these areas down. In order to prevent cross-contamination, you must make sure that your custodians use a different side of the towel to clean each sink.

Floors

Because residents are constantly in and out of the shower stalls throughout the day and night, it can be difficult to keep dorm restroom floors dry. This creates conditions in which bacteria and mold can grow easily, especially in the grout between tiles. In addition, wet floors pose a slip-and-fall hazard.

In an effort to prevent these dangerous conditions, your team should use a spray-and-vac system, which leaves your floors clean and dry. When using this advanced technology, your custodians should start by spraying an environmentally safe cleaner over the entire floor surface. Then, they should use the powerful rinse of fresh water to loosen soil and foreign objects. Lastly, they should use the industrial-strength vacuum to remove the all the liquid and soil. These advanced systems allow you to work quickly and efficiently, which makes it easier for your team to clean your facilities multiple times throughout the day.
